Miriam Velasquez, 80 years, passed away at Providence Alaska Medical Center on Sept. 9, 2018, in Anchorage, Alaska.
A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2018, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Miriam was born on Feb. 16, 1938, in Medellin, Colombia, to parents Bernardo Florez and Ana Mazo. She married Gilberto Velasquez in Colombia S.A.; this year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Miriam owned and operated Miriam's Day Care for more than 30 years.
The family wrote, "Known to all as Tia, loved by everyone who had the honor of knowing her."
She is survived by her husband, Gilberto Velasquez; son, Cesar O. Velasquez; sisters, Rosemia Florez and Luz Ana Florez; brother, Mario Florez; nieces, Lina Ramirez, Luz Brown and Paula Montoya; and grandsons, Steven and Daniel Velasquez.
