Nobuko Wayt, age 81, passed away on Aug. 3, 2017, at home, surrounded by family. She was born Jan. 15, 1936, in Sendai, Japan.
Nobuko was a young girl during World War II and grew up and survived the turmoil, shortages and aftermath of an entire world at war. Her father was a farmer from Fukushima and served in the Japanese Navy. Her mother ran a cookie store. Nobuko was very close to both of them.
At the age of 22, Nobuko met Ronald Wayt, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Misawa Airbase, Japan. They were soon married and eventually had four sons together. For a short period, Nobuko worked in the food service industry for the government, but her main role and passion was raising her boys and being a devoted wife. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she was as protective as a mama grizzly bear with cubs.
Nobuko followed Ronald to numerous changes in duty assignments. They moved from Misawa Air Base, Japan; to Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; back to Misawa AB, Japan; to Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio; to Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; to Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska; to Norton Air Force Base, Calif.; and finally to Travis Air Force Base, Calif., where Ronald retired from the Air Force, and they lived for several years. Nobuko and Ronald moved back to Alaska, in 2005, to be near family.
Nobuko is survived by her husband, Ronald; sons, John, James, Michael and Robert; daughters-in-law, Tracy, Lara and Aya; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, Erica, Emily, Ricky, Allison and Tag.
Nobuko will be remembered most for her devotion to family, her pride and her determination.
Rest in Peace, Mom.
