Phyllis Nadine Leaf, 81, from Eagle River, Alaska, passed away on Oct. 27, 2016. Phyllis was born in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 23, 1934, to Harold and Lovetta Weeks. She was raised in Portland with her two older sisters, Hazel Schlotter ad Dorothy Bottler. Phyllis married George Leaf on Aug. 2, 1952. Their first son, Dennis, was born in 1953, and a year later the Army moved them all to Hawaii. They returned to Portland, where they welcomed two more sons: Timothy in 1965, and Kenneth in 1967. In 1982, Phyllis and George, Tim and Ken uprooted their home in Portland and moved to Alaska, where they joined Dennis and his family. They quickly made Eagle River their home. By 2010, Phyllis had five grandchildren, Myki , Brian, and Sally (Dennis), Cole and Wade (Kenneth); and three daughters-in-law, Barb (Dennis), Louise (Tim) and Lisa (Ken). By 2011, two great-grandchildren, Oren and Ayla Laret (Sally and Tyrel), were added to the family. Phyllis was a lifelong homemaker. For a short time, while the younger boys were small, she was a seamstress for White Stag in Portland. Her passions included sewing, painting, beading, crocheting and knitting, to name a few. Once she had established herself in the crafting community in Eagle River, George set up their garage as a studio for Phyllis to give painting lessons. She graced many bazaars with her crafts. Phyllis not only gave her passion for crafts to the community, she also passed on her talents to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy will live on for generations to come. Phyllis is preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy; son, Dennis; husband, George; infant daughter; and parents, Lovetta and Harold Weeks. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at 2 p.m., at the ACF Church in Eagle River.
