Long time Alaskan R. Larry Ferro, 84, passed away on Jan. 9, 2018, in Wasilla, Alaska.
Larry was born on Aug. 18, 1933, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Ralph and Marie Ferro.
Larry moved to Alaska in July 1976, and was employed with the Bank of the North and Arctic Circle Enterprises.
Larry coached a lot of baseball at the Little League, middle school and high school levels and spent time watching college and pro sports. He enjoyed fishing and in his younger years, hunting - not to mention a really good pizza.
Larry's family wrote of him: "Dad was always witty and ready for a family meal, a game of catch, a good fishing trip or a ball game that either Notre Dame or any Michigan team was playing. He was a loving and affectionate dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He and his several sayings will be missed."
He is survived by his children, Mark, Randy, Kevin, Jason and Frank Ferro; daughter-in-law, Deborah; son-in-law, Vince Petri; grandchildren, Mark, Krissy, Joshua, Jordan Jonas, Jeremy, Jacob, Ryan, Dana, Heather, Angela, Valerie, Jennifer, Jessica, Ashley, Brittany, Summer, and Dillon Ferro; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Thomassen; and nieces and nephews, Steve, Debbie Haggi and Amy, Meishel and Shane.
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Kris Ferro; sister, Lou Haggi; and brother-in-law, Dick Haggi.
Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla.
