Rebecca Lynn McGuire was born on Nov. 11, 1958, to Erwin and Irene Kittleson in Astoria, Ore. In 1968, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Becky went to Romig Jr. High and West High School; she obtained her GED and became a secretary at the age of 17.
In 1978, she married Alan Westervelt and they had a daughter named Aimee born on Jan. 1, 1981. After Alan and Becky divorced she remained in Alaska, and met her lifelong partner and husband, John McGuire, in 1986. For three years Becky was a property manager for Panoramic View Apartments on Government Hill then worked for Pacific Telecom for eight years as an executive secretary. In 1992, Becky and John got married and had their daughter, Alysha, on June 26, 1993. A few years later Becky went back to property management at Jewel Lake Villa. With her many jobs came many friends.
In early 2006, Becky and her family moved to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, where they spent seven years before returning to Anchorage. In March 2014, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer which lead to her passing on Sunday, July 16, 2017.
Rebecca, on top of her many arts and crafts talents, strong work ethic and intelligence, was a dedicated wife, a wonderful sister and the best mother her children could have hoped for. She was strong, brave, independent and thoughtful. Those who knew Becky knew that she was unapologetically herself and always looking for a good laugh. Her battle with cancer was long and valiant. Her family and friends are proud of her and thankful for knowing such an incredible woman.
Becky is survived by her husband, John McGuire; sister, Linda Stowes; children, Aimee Mobley, Dawniella Burkey and Alysha McGuire; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded by her father, Erwin Kittleson; brother, Gary Kittleson; mother, Irene Cecil; and stepfather, Eugene Cecil.
Donations can be made online in her name to The Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska. The family encourages all women to go get their exams.
