Rita Jane Wood, age 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 27, 2016, at her home in Anchorage, Alaska. A service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 1 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish: 3900 Wisconsin St., Anchorage, AK 99517. Father Moore will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Rita was born on Nov. 19, 1934, to Paul and Sarah DeForge in Rochester, N.Y. She was married to Ronald Wood Sr. With their three children, moved to Alaska in 1961, first to Fairbanks then in 1968 moved to Anchorage. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1972, when she took her first job at Wien Air Alaska, then with Mark Air and retired from BLM in 1999. But her favorite was being the crossing guard at Turnagain Elementary School for several years. Rita was beloved by so many and will be missed greatly. She was active in her church and in her Turnagain neighborhood. Spending time with her kids, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren were the highlights in her days. She was always giving to others who needed a hand. We are comforted by Mom's peacefully passing and knowing she is no longer suffering. She is rejoicing with her heavenly family. Rita is survived by her sister, Marie Gardner of Rochester, N.Y.; children, Kathy (Rod), Ron and Suzi; grandchildren, Justin, Krista (Ryan), Abigail (Martin), Sarah and Seth; and great-grandchildren, Aubrina, Rylynn, Kysen, Robert, Zane and Hudson; as well as many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; brothers; and husband. Memorial donations can be sent to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parrish or to the .
