Anchorage resident Robert Alan Smejdir, 48, died Dec. 24, 2009, at his home.

Inurnment with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Robert was born Feb. 24, 1961, in San Jose, Calif. He received his Master of Science degree in business organizational management and retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1979 to 1994. He became a resident of Anchorage in 1994 and had lived here since.

Robert was a Realtor and had been director of sales and marketing for Connie Yoshimura & Associates at Prudential Jack White Vista since 2008. Prior to that he was in pharmaceutical sales with BI and Merck from 2000 to 2008. He also worked at the U.S. Postal Service from 1994 to 2000.

He was vice president of the Alaska Czech Society and a member of VFW Post 1. He received a sales excellence award, with travel to Bermuda. Bob loved fine red wines and imported cigars, as well as fishing, vacationing in Mexico and spending time with family and friends.

His family writes: "Bob leaves behind a family who love and treasure him very much. Bob is well respected in the real estate industry and went the extra mile for his clients. Bob made friends easily. His wonderful smile and good-natured spirit will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was an amazing father who instilled many great qualities and values that will be cherished by his children."

Bob is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shawna Jean Smejdir; son, Eric Alan Smejdir; daughter, Jacquelyn LeAnn Halverson; son-in-law, Sean C. Halverson; granddaughter, Olivia Ann Halverson; Smudge, the pug; parents, Don Sr. and Betty Smejdir; father-in-law, Jack Garrison; brothers, Don Jr. and Dan Smejdir; sister, Liz; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Smejdir, Sharon Kalnoski, Shelli Rabung, Shannon Rogers and Joi Weber; brothers-in-law, Tom Allen, Steve Rabung, Bruce Rogers and Donovan Weber; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Patti Garrison.
