Former Alaska resident Rodney Clifford Varney, 72, died Oct. 17, 2007, in Lake Havasu, Ariz.
He was born Aug. 16, 1935, to William and Madline (Gagnon) Varney, in Berwick, Maine.
Rodney served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He married Tricia Anne Bunch on March 26, 1979. Rodney worked as a mechanic for Interior Airways in Fairbanks in 1968; Wien Air from 1969 to 1985; Era Aviation from 1985 to 1995 and then Alaska Airlines in Anchorage from 1995 to 2001.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1534 in Anchorage, American Legion Post 33 in Peters Creek, Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Good Sam's RV Club.
Rodney leaves behind his beloved wife of 28 years, Tricia Varney of Lake Havasu; sons, Rodney Wright, Rick Wright and Anthony Esparza; daughters, Vickie Varney, Belinda Varney and Melissa Barnett; brothers, Billy Varney and Ralph Varney; sisters, Bertina Gibbs, Donna Hilton and Cheryl McDonald; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
