Ronald E. "Gene2" Cox, 82, passed away on Nov. 20, 2017, just one week after his birthday. Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane; daughter, Kelly Gardner and her husband, Bill and their daughter, Sophia, age 10; son, Britt and his daughter, Taylor, age 18, and her mother, Yvonne Villanyi; and sister, June Cox of Concord, Calif. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Sudie May (Bradford) Cox; father, Albert E. Cox; and sister, Gloria Harvey.
Gene lived for over 64 years primarily in Anchorage, Alaska, and graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a degree in Business Management in 1964. He worked in property appraisal for the Municipality of Anchorage and the State of Alaska, Division of Aviation. He retired in 1989, after spending 15 years with the Anchorage Police Department, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Prior to his marriage to Mary Jane in 1964, the year of the Great Alaska Earthquake, Gene was active in the downhill ski community, and was a lifetime member of the Arctic Valley Ski Club. He was very proud of his skiing accomplishments and treasured the friendships he made in the skiing community.
He was particularly happy to see his granddaughter, Sophia, ski competitively, and he regretted that he never got to see her race. He and Mary Jane were both proud to see their granddaughter, Taylor, graduate from high school and begin her first year of college.
Gene and Mary Jane moved from Anchorage in September 2015 to Colorado in order to be closer to family. To quote Britt, Dad lived a good, full life. In his last days, he spoke of his family and good friends. On behalf of his family, we thank his friends and colleagues for the fullness they added to his life.
Mary Jane can be reached at 3377 Mill Vista Road, Unit 3213, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.
