Ronald Terry Peltola, 67, died Jan. 14, 2011, in Bethel. Ron will be laid to rest today in the New Kasuyuli Cemetary, and a feast will follow the burial.

He was born June 6, 1943, to Earl Ray Ferdon and Katherine Hoffman Ferdon in Nyac, 40 miles southwest of Aniak. When Ron was 2, Katherine married Ray "Blackie" Peltola and they had four children together, Gene, Glenn, Ray and Cheryl.

Ron graduated from Copper Valley School in May of 1962, and while in high school played basketball with Jake Aloysius. He earned his private pilot's license when he was 18 years old and from there went on to earn his commercial pilot's license. He went to work for Jimmix Samuelson of Samuelson's Flying Service, where he met his future wife, Geraldine Demientieff. They were married on Oct. 29, 1966 in Bethel. They had five daughters and one son: Taren Rondelle, Dana Kristine, Dorine Kay, Kari Lynn and Ronda Kathleen; and finally their only son, Gary Scott Christian Peltola, on July 4, 1979.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; father, Ray Peltola; mother, Katherine Lee; step-father, George Lee; brother, Raymond Peltola; mother-in-law, Judy Demientieff; his favorite uncle, Edward Hoffman (Uncle Eddie); favorite aunt, Mary Samuelson and her husband, John Datu Samuelson; favorite cousin, Edward Sonny Hoffman; best friends, Jake and Alec Aloysius; grandson, Dustin Lawrence Neace; great-granddaughter, Shobi Aniah Neace; and many more cousins and uncles and aunties.

Ron is survived by his daughters and spouses, Taren Peltola (Brian Tomes), Dana Peltola, Dorine (Terry Newman), Kari Peltola and companion Kirk Gunther, Ronda Peltola and companion, Brian Miller; son, Gary Scott and wife Bernadette Chaney; grandchildren, Ashleigh Yager, Jordan Ronald Neace, Kurtis and Kayde Kemp, Tristan, Demi, Cody and Logan Sumstad, Jared Ronald Peltola, Ashton Blake Peltola-Miller, Jaden Joseph Anthony Peltola, Adrienne Marie, Alex Ronald and Geraldine Peltola; great-grandchildren, Ruben Sean and Asher Jude Yager, and Skyler Kemp; brothers, Gene (Eirma Peltola), Glenn (Cora Peltola) Cheryl (James Vaska), step-sisters, Darlene Morgan, Debbie Lee, Loretta Robinette, step-brothers, Raymond, Walter, Douglas and George Lee; and Ron's companion, Carolyn Moses.
