Life long Anchorage, Alaska, resident Roxy Lay, 57, died on July 1, 2017, at her home in Anchorage, surrounded by loved ones, after a 5-year-long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 4 p.m., at Anchorage Moose Lodge #1534, 4211 Arctic Blvd in Anchorage.
Ms. Lay was born on April 22, 1960, in Anchorage, where she resided until her death. An avid fisherwoman and lover of camping and boating, Roxy was truly an Alaskan woman at heart. Ms. Lay was a member of the Anchorage Moose Lodge where she spent many hours volunteering, particularly in the kitchen, where she would make and share some of her most sought out recipes.
Her family wrote: "Roxy's strength, courage, determination and abundance of love for her family, friends and animals were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her infectious laugh, wit, beautiful smile, generosity and kind heart will truly be missed by all."
She is survived by her daughter and granddaughter, Tanya and Audrian Kocur of Anchorage; her partner, John Behrens of Anchorage; her father, Jack Sledge of Fiddletown, Calif.; her mother, Judy Underwood of Olive Branch, Miss.; her brothers, Robert Sledge of Eugene, Ore., and Bill Howard of Olive Branch, Miss.; sister, Debi Shade of Coatesville, Ind.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
