A much beloved husband, brother, son and friend, Samuel "Sam" Cyrus, 42, of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away due to the sudden onset of a brain aneurysm on March 8, 2015. Sam was born in Hammond, Ind., to Howard and Ruth Cyrus. He graduated from Highland High School in 1991, and went on to receive Bachelor of Arts degrees in Marketing Management and Spanish from Manchester University. He spent part of his college career studying Spanish abroad at the University of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. After college graduation, Sam spent time traveling in Asia, Mexico, and New Zealand. Upon his return to the United States, he resided in both Colorado and Arizona. While in Arizona, Sam met his soul mate, Kimberly. They married in 2001, in Jerome, Ariz. During their marriage, they resided in Arizona, Wyoming, and Alaska. Sam joined the Halliburton Energy Services Group in Rock Springs, Wyo., as a Wireline Operator and later transferred to work as Lead Wireline Operator in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Everyone who knew Sam was aware of his zest for life. This was a man who had no regrets. Along with Kimberly, if he wanted to experience some place or some thing, he did. Together they traveled the world. Sam was a kind and loyal soul. He loved the outdoors. Many summer days he could be found fly fishing in Alaska rivers or hiking down a trail. He had a passion for music and literature of all kinds and was always ready to share his new discoveries. He was a man who spoke his mind, valued his friends, loved his wife without fail and never had any hesitation making people feel at ease in his presence. He lived life to the fullest, as it should be and inspired many others to do the same. Sam his survived by his loving wife, Kimberly; mother, Ruth Cyrus; sister, Merri Klein (Mark); brothers, Thomas Klein, Skip Cyrus (Sheryl), Chris Cyrus (Michelle), Greg Klein (Joan) and Robert Klein (Julie); and beloved dog, Steve. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Howard Cyrus. A Celebration of Life for Sam will be held at O'Malley's On the Green, 3651 O'Malley Road in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 14, 2015, from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. A Sam Cyrus Memorial Fund has been set up at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union. We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Alaska Regional Hospital, Life Center Northwest and Life Alaska for all their love and support during this difficult time. Sam's giving nature and spirit continues to shine with the donation of his organs.
