Samuel Dee Wiens, 47, of Green River, Wyo., died at 4:20 a.m. Oct. 13, 2008 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyo., after a sudden illness.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. today, with visitation from noon-1 p.m., at the Green River United Methodist Church, 410 Upland Way, Green River, Wyo. The Rev. Paul Holland will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Green River.
A former resident of Wasilla, he had lived in Green River for the past three years.
He was born March 22, 1961 in Ulysses, Kan., the son of Robert Merle and Betty Lou Hargrove Wiens.
Mr. Wiens attended school in Stanton County, Kan., and graduated from the Moundridge High School in Moundridge, Kan., with the Class of 1980.
He worked as an oil field consultant for British Petroleum in Wamsutter, Wyo.
His interests included hunting, fishing and four-wheeling with his son.
Survivors include fiance, Peggy Huntley of Green River; one son, Chance Robert Wiens of Green River; his father, Robert M. Wiens of Midland, Texas; two brothers, James Robert Wiens and companion Deborah Gillum of Midland, Texas, and Randal J. Wiens and wife Tanya of Evanston, Wyo.; one sister, Teresa Wiens-Carlson of Rock Springs, Wyo., and two nephews, Derrik and Dustin Carlson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and several aunts, uncles and cousins
He was preceded in death by his mother; and the mother of his son, Stormy Breaux Wiens.
The family of Samuel Dee Wiens respectfully suggests that donations in his memory be made to Chance Wiens' trust fund, c/o Trona Valley Federal Credit Union, 840 Hitching Post Drive, Green River, WY 82935.
