Thomas Doney

Wasilla resident Thomas Alan Doney, 48, passed away after a long battle with cancer on June 5, 2011, at Alaska Native Medical Center.

A celebration of life will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. Spreading of his ashes will be determined at a later date.

Thomas was born on Fort Belknap in Harlem, Mont., on Nov. 2, 1962.

He was in the United States Army from 1981 to 1989. He was honorably discharged from the Army with numerous medals and ribbons.

From 1989 to 1999, he worked for Drivetrain Distributors, and from 2000 to 2010 he worked for Alaska Interstate Construction in Anchorage.

Thomas was affiliated with American Legion Post 29, Alaska Operating Engineers Local 302 and Amvets Post 9. He was an industrial firefighter for Northstar Island.

He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, playing poker and spending time with his family and friends.

His family wrote: "In the last year of his life, Thomas Doney was able to complete his lifelong dream of building his cabin that his family can now enjoy. In Thomas's professional career he helped build Northstar Island from start to present!"

Survivors include his wife, Carmela Doney; son, Christopher (Amanda) Doney of Anchorage; daughter, Amie (William) Bowles; sons, Trapper (Masha) Doney and Jonathan Doney, all of Wasilla; six grandchildren, Archer Bowles, Gunner Doney, Remington and Amilia Bowles, and Madison and Eva Doney; father, Leroy Doney; sister, Shauna (John) Cornell; brother, David Doney of East Helena, Mont.; sister, Jody (Richard) McPherson of Helena; brother, James (Laurie) Doney of Clancy, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Doney; mother, Charlene Doney; and brother, Steven Doney.

Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
