Lifelong Anchorage resident Tye Pereira, 18, died March 20, 2007, in Anchorage.
A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Dimond High School auditorium.
Tye was born Feb. 20, 1989, in Philadelphia. He was diagnosed in utero with a congenital heart defect, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which required three open-heart surgeries, at age 2 days, 11 months and 18 months. He also had a pacemaker implant in March 1997.
Tye served as Dimond High School's senior class president and participated on the Dimond High School varsity tennis team. He also was a member of Mended Little Hearts of Anchorage, where he has volunteered for fundraisers and other events to help other heart kids and families.
His family wrote: "Tye's wonderful personality and love of life touched everyone who met him. Don't be sorry or sad for us; we have the greatest gift of all to be Tye's family. Tye lived his entire life to the fullest. Tye has always said, 'Don't worry about me because God is taking care of me.' We are truly at peace knowing that Tye is now with the Lord."
