Verna June Maez passed away peacefully in her bed on Sept. 28, 2017. She was born in North Dakota to father, Gottlib Seitz, and mother,
Hilda Koski, on June 24, 1935. She married Joe L. Maez, and gave birth to Donald and Theresa. She is survived by her older brother, Jim Seitz; and daughter Theresa Maez.
Verna made Anchorage her home for the last 35 years, dividing her attention between being a devoted wife, a loving mother and a dedicated community volunteer. Verna also proudly attended Our Lady of Guadeloupe for many years. She loved volunteering in the church's thrift store, One More Time. Verna had a strong faith in God, and lived her life according to the Gospel. Family and friends were very important to Verna. Much of her life was dedicated to providing care and wisdom to them. In return, she was beloved, and will be missed by all who knew her. Her family knows that she is returning to the loving embrace of her parents, brothers, husband and son.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
A memorial service and potluck celebrating Verna's life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lake Hood Chapel, 3340 West 40th Avenue in
Anchorage, Alaska, on Nov. 25, 2017, from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite dish.
