Mr. Young S. Yoon was born on February 28, 1948 in Korea and passed away on June 28, 2013.

He and his family moved to Homer, AK in 1976 from South Korea and then moved to Anchorage, AK in 1982 from New York. For the next 28 years, Mr. Yoon and his wife, Ok S. Yoon, along with members of his family have owned and operated Oriental Shopping Center. He was a well respected, active, and vital part of the Alaskan Korean Community. In 2010, he sold the operation to enjoy retirement with his wife.

Since then, they have travelled to Korea, Vietnam, Bali, Myanmar, Thailand, China, Philippines, Nepal, and various states across the United States. Mr. Yoon was a proud member of The Republic of Korea Marine and proud of his son, Tae Joon, who was a US Marine Captain that served in Afghanistan and Iran. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, hiking, photography, fishing, camping, reading, and spending time with his family. His love of hiking led him and his wife to hike The Himalayas. He was a caring and loving son, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who always had a smile on his face.

Mr. Yoon is preceded in death by his father, Joo K. Yoon, and survived by his mother, Moon Ok Yoon; wife of 37 years, Ok S. Yoon; son, Tae Joon Yoon (Kris); daughter, Young Mi Yoon; grandchildren, Tristan and Lily; 4 brothers, Dong, Won, Chang, and Ryang; 1 sister, Kyung; and 13 nieces and nephews.

The Visitation and Funeral Service will be at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 440 E. Klatt Rd. on Tuesday July 2, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
