Long time Alaska resident Zona Gail Brink, 89, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2018, surrounded by family in Peters Creek, Alaska. Zona was born on Aug. 9, 1928, in Burke, S.D., to John and Anna Hamann. Zona grew up in South Dakota, her family then moved to Oregon and she eventually ended up in California, where she met and married her husband, Marvin Brink. Together they moved to Alaska in 1949, where they homesteaded on Muldoon Road in Anchorage. They eventually moved to South Anchorage in 1956, where they raised five children of their own.
Zona was a housewife and mother. Taking care of her family was her number one priority. She had many hobbies including cross-stitch and knitting, and was an avid reader. Zona enjoyed spending time with her husband working in their yard, whether in the garden or tending to her favorite rose bush. She loved it when the whole family could get together and cherished the family barbecues and reunions at their home in Peters Creek. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Zona is survived by her five children, Linda (Craig), Larry (Pam), Lorraine, Lucille; and Lyle; seven grandchildren, Cyndi, Alison, Justin, Cameron, Colt, Christine and Taylor; as well as several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Doris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Marvin.
The family is following her wishes not to have a formal service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the in memory of Zona. The family would also like to recognize Providence Hospice for their help and care during the last weeks of her life.
Arrangements were made with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
