Alma Helena Bolton, 82, passed away on January 20, 2014 at the Alaska Native Medical Center with her daughter at her side. She was born on November 9, 1931 in Sand Point, Alaska to Axel and Helena Matheison. Alma had lived in many places, including Sand Point, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Anchorage, Alaska.
The Guest Book is expired.
Ms. Bolton became a registered nurse and then was employed as an AWAIC Advocate until she retired in 1992, when she became a drug and alcohol counselor for people in need. She took part in many different types of community service including Camp Fire, Boys and Girls Club, and Girl Scouts. Alma enjoyed camping, fishing, berry picking, and her bead work. She also enjoyed playing bingo and a good game of scrabble with the other elders. Her biggest accomplishment was the joy and adventure she received from raising her children and holding her grandchildren. Alma loved gardening, and will be remembered for her homemade cooking and baking.
For all those who knew Alma, she was a 48 1/2 inch fire cracker with compassion, a caring heart, and so much understanding. She was a very giving, strong, and brave woman. Her courage and strength will carry on through her children and grandchildren, and her energy and determination will be greatly missed.
"Mom loved camping so much that she took her son, Donald, and his wife, Christy, with their first newborn baby girl, Heather, out in April with snow still on the ground. They had to dig for firewood out of the frozen ground! It is a memory that will be forever cherished."
Alma is survived by her children: Angela Bolton, Donald and Christy Johnston, Robert Miller, Diane Graves, Helena Moore, Ronald Johnston, Brian Johnston, David Johnston, and Larry Bolton Jr., along with twenty four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
