Ms. Alice Louise Slayton, 86, passed away on July 24, 2014, at her residence, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Her cremated remains are to be scattered in Kachemak Bay in Alaska. Alice was born on July 27, 1928 in Chautauqua, New York to Harold A. and Hazel R. (Woodard) Slayton. She moved to Homer, Alaska in 1941; later obtaining an Associate's Degree in May of 1968 from the University of Alaska. Alice began working for the Federal Government in 1961, while getting her education, working in the finance office on Elmendorf Air Force Base until retiring in July 1988, after 27 years. In her free time, Alice loved knitting, crocheting and playing Bingo. Alice put a lot of her free time towards helping others; she loved to make baby blankets and hats for Arctic Angels. Her family wrote: "Alice Slayton loved to knit and crochet. She made beautiful afghans for her family and friends. She won many blue ribbons and "Best of Show" from the Alaska State Fair for her entries over the past 45 years. She will be missed by her friends and family at Gold Cash Bingo." Alice is survived by her brother, Harold Slayton, Sun City, CA; daughter, Carolee Pickett, Turner, OR; grandchildren, Donna Fredrickson, Eagle River, AK; Allyson Eurich, Troy, OH; Cyndi Brown, Salem, OR; and Orv Pickett, Turner, OR; great grandchildren, Nicole Rednose, Eagle River, AK; David Eurich, Fairbanks, AK; Jerimiah Denton and Rebecca Flynn, both of Marana, AZ; Laurie Flynn, Tucson, AZ; Jareth Freeman, Salem, OR; Jaden Barnett, Salem, OR; Karina Pickett, Turner, OR; Zach Fredrickson, Eagle River, AK; Bobbi Robertson, Fairbanks, AK and Donny Fredrickson, Eagle River, AK. Ms. Slayton is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Erhart and granddaughter, Leslie Denton. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 "Our hope is in Jesus!
