FUNERAL HOME

Stanley Preston Obituary

Bryon Preston, 54 went to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 24, 2013 after a long courageous battle with type 1 diabetes. Bryon was born January 22, 1959 in Cut Bank, Montana. Alaska was his home since 1972. Bryon will be remembered for his energetic smile, quick sense of humor and graciousness.

Bryon was a graduate of West Anchorage High School Class of 1977. Bryon received his Bachelor of Arts/Education degree from the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Over the years he received numerous awards for his artistic sculptures and paintings. Bryon worked with the State of Alaska, Labor and Workforce Development until he had to retire due to health complications. He previously was a mechanic at N&S Texaco in Anchorage and substitute teacher with the Anchorage School District.

He was a talented artist, whose creativity was admired by many and will be lovingly remembered by all. His passions in addition to art were fishing, gold mining, canoeing, camping, skiing and traveling with his beloved Gloria.

Comfortable and at peace in his new journey without diabetes, "Bryon" is more than a memory; he remains a loving and living presence to his family and friends. Bryon will be deeply missed by his parents Norm and Shirley Preston of Anchorage; sister Tamara Sheffield of Anchorage; brother-in-law Mike Sheffield; nephew Steven Sheffield of Juneau; and soul mate of 20 years Gloria Williams of Anchorage, AK. Bryon had a special bond with Sherry Gallagher who donated a kidney to him in 2003. He was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents. Rest well Bryon, the struggle is over and one day we will meet again.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Alyeska Assisted Living in Anchorage for their loving care and support during this time. The family will have a celebration of life later this summer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alaska Diabetes Association, 801 W Fireweed Lane, #103, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Bryon, I have missed my friend for many years. Tamara, Mike, Norm, Shirley, my prayers are with you. Don't know why, but I jus came upon this. Me and bryon had many fond memories running the streets of anchorage years ago. My heart is saddened, I have never forgotten you all. You have always had a special place in my heart.
