Mrs. Falcone, 75, was a native of North Augusta, graduating from North Augusta High School in 1959. She received her Bachelor's degree from Duke University. Following her undergraduate studies, she became the first woman to receive her MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Nola Maddox and Charles Falcone were married in 1968.
Charles Falcone joined American Electric Power (AEP) in 1964. He served as an engineer in its Electrical Engineering Division for two years and in its System Planning Department for nine. She became a partner of Lieber & Co. as well as President and Co-CEO of Evergreen following its acquisition by First Union (subsequently Wachovia Corp.). Nola had been named by Barron's as one of the top money managers in the U.S. in 1997 and 1998. She had been featured many times in the financial press and had appeared on various financial news networks.
Dr. and Mrs. Falcone both retired in 1997 and made their home on Jupiter Island in Hobe Sound, FL. Dr. Falcone began serving on the Jupiter Island Town Commission in 2003, was mayor of Jupiter Island from 2006 until 2011, and continued to serve as a Town Commissioner until his death. Dr. and Mrs. Falcone were active members of the Jupiter Island Club and their communities. Dr. Falcone was a director of the Stuart-Martin County Council of the Arts and the Boys and Girls Club of Martin County. He was an avid bridge player and also served as the wizard of the Whiz Kids. Mrs. Falcone participated with several garden clubs and was a lifelong patron of the Arts, supporting locally the Morris Museum of Art. She had previously served on the Board of Visitors for the Duke University Fuqua School of Business as well as on the Board of the Clark Advanced Learning Center at Indian River Community College in Stuart, FL. A 10-year thoughtful post. Thank you.
We met mainly because our mothers met and became friends waiting at the school bus stop ½ a block from my house and 2 blocks from Charles´. Probably 1st grade? Eight grades later and then we both went to the same very close just opened new high school. Charles and I saw each other a lot - and also being a regular "visitor" to his gracious parent´s home. In college, we went in different directions for most of the years. But still in touch - and as before on occasion we talked about interesting books we´d come across. One I recall he recommended I get - a paperback - and I did wonder how he chanced to find it. Recalling points in time is near impossible?
But a few are just odd enough? In those days being 21 in NYC was important. I could legally sit in an auction- even not looking to buy anything. And learn to drive. Or register to vote (which was not of strong interest). When I was 23, and Charles a few months younger - I hadn´t, and I don´t think he had either - in a conversation with Charles´s father that November, Charles´ father said
"Why don´t I drive you both over to P.S. 32 tomorrow (our local school we had attended that was also where voting was held) and you can vote for your first time". I don´t remember that we said anything about the choices, yet we probably did. An experience, of course.
Charles and Nola shared very meaningful life values, (and that of Charles´ parents also) and that does live on - and it will always be so greatly appreciated.

I am Chip Falone's son and the grandchild of Charles and Nola Falcone. Even though this happened a very long time ago and this is likely the last message on this contribution page, I miss them dearly. I've always wondered what cool engineering things me and Opa (Charles) would build and the economic teachings that Grammy (Nola) would teach me. I am 14 now and was 5 then. I clearly remember the picture of me sitting on Opa's lap in my pajamas as a group photo a couple months before he died. I will not see them now but I will see them soon.

Dear Chip,
So long overdue to you and your family. I am so saddened by the loss of your father and mother. I am you father's cousin and I always held him close to my heart. I too lived in flushing as we all grew up. I will love him forever and miss him dearly.
Love to you, cousin Milissa Falcone Bonisese

Chip,
I was just starting to Google a few people that I had known back when I was at Gordon, to see what people were up to, when I came across the unfortunate news of your parents' tragic death only 3 months ago. I am sorry that you had to lose them that way. I will be praying for you, your wife, and your children.

Sad, sad event that makes no sense.
I knew Charles from 1st grade - we - with his mother & mine, waited at the same school bus stop for PS32 in Flushing, NY. His home was always open, and his gracious parents, proved beyond doubt with hindsight, had the formula for raising 2 wonderful children (him & his younger sister). He taught me a new game one day in their basement/playroom - in 6th grade. It was chess. (That game made many great friends for me through the years!). When we were old enough to vote, his father drove the two of us to the school to vote- for our first time. Years later, he met Nola - and a wonderful person she was, too. Through the decades they were always available to talk about things, exchange information - for example, even sit down and talk to our daughter at length about career choices after she graduated college. She wanted to ask Nola about then instead pursuing a career in finance. (She subsequently did!) Over the years I could only wish they had lived closer. The world is saddened for this great loss.

Dear Nola,
I miss you. I am so sad that you are lost to us now. I had hoped to get back in touch and to introduce you to my husband and daughter, you had always supported me and made me feel strong and smart and I know you had high hopes for me since childhood. I will miss the sound of your bright laugh and your pretty voice. I am so sorry that I failed to keep in touch in recent years in part because of my shame for my personal failures, but I have to remember that true friends love us always. I did not want to believe what happened and I still don't want to. I know how much you loved your son and I know you must have adored your grandchildren. I know God's love is even greater. I do believe that God is Love and we all go home to Him.

To thoses left behind, I was Mrs.Falcone's gardening supervisor on Jupiter Island. I did not know her as a socialite or a J. I. C member but as a lady who would slow her pace ( a rarity) to walk around smiling at the beauty. She knew what she wanted and I will never see white, blue or pink flowers without thinking of her. Im so sincerely sorry for your loses.

Dear Chip,
My hands are trembling as I write this. I was at the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church today where the pastor gave the "tragic" news without details. You are a true example and evidence of the love, care and goodness of both your parents. That they leave this world in such a tragic fashion is the antithesis of the life they shared with all who knew them. May the good Lord continue to shed His light upon you and give you the grace to bear this tragedy. We remember Charles and Nola for the exemplary lives they led and shared with us in White Plains and Scarsdale. May they rest in perfect peace. May you be strengthened in your faith. Amen.

Chip:
Although you may not remember me, I met you at your grandmother's visitation several years ago. I have worked and been good friends with your Mama through ASU for many years. Your father was a trustee of the ASU Foundation. Your grandfather was a founding and charter member of the Augusta College Foundation in 1963. I have wonderful memories of Nola and all that she represented. Your parents adored you and your family and especially your children. They were very proud of you and your work and dedication to your church...their church. Please give my thoughts to Julia. She was truly dedicated to your parents and a dear friend. God bless you and yours. Helenendee

Prayers uplifted for your family. Nola and I were classmates from our early years through high school. My husband, Aubrey Folk, was a year ahead of us so he knew Nola as well. We were in their home in Augusta some years back when they hosted an event in connection with one of our high school reunions. My husband grew up in First Baptist Church of North Augusta and remembers Mr. Maddox as Sunday School Director and Sunday School teacher there as well as the rest of the family's involvement. Fond memories for both of us. Again, prayers for peace and comfort. Aubrey and Patsy Turnell Folk

Charles, my memories of you through grammar school and high school in New York are still strong and I was so glad when we made contact with one another again a few years ago. You had became very successful and always a true gentleman. I was stunned to read of your death. God bless you and Nola.
