AIKEN, S.C. - Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Settles, Jr, age 83 of 342 Perrin Street passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Noon, June 21, 2014 at Mt. Anna Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Bryant officiating and Rev. Kenneth Settles as Eulogist. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Rev. Settles will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 11 AM until the hour of service.
Alvin was born September 13, 1930 in Augusta, GA, the son of Alvin, Sr. and Essie Mae Johnson Settles. He resided in Jacksonville, FL for nine years. He was called in to ministry in 1960 and continued in the ministry until his retirement in 2012. He received his Doctrine in 2012, pastured numerous churches and retired from St. Peter Baptist Church, Elko, SC after twenty-five years of service. He was recognized by numerous organizations including "Who's Who."
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made payable to his wife.
Survivors include: his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Mary G. Settles; daughters, Jeanette (Otis) Sullivan, Sandra (Alex) Howard, and Susan (Roosevelt) Crockett; sons, Marvin (Sherriel) Settles, Wayne (Evangelist Lillie) Settles, Rev. Kenneth (Pearly Mae) Settles, and Romayel Settles; his sister, Frances (Edmund) Adams; sixty-eight grandchildren; eighty-five great-grandchildren.
The family will greet their friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 PM. All ministers in attendance are asked to wear their ministerial robes, preferably in white. Pallbearers will be St. Peter Baptist Church Deacons.
