James Doswell
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Ann Frances James Doswell, 96, died peacefully on March 10, 2016 at her home in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on December 19, 1919 to Anna Richards and Harry Eames James, a pioneer in the Florida Insurance Industry.
She graduated from Lee High School and attended post -graduate schools in Washington, D.C. and New York. She was a member of the 1940 Debutante Coterie. She was married in 1947 to the late. Lt. Col. James Temple Doswell, II USMC (retired). Ann was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Jacksonville, active in the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida, Ladies Board of the Cummer Gallery of Art, Women's Board of Wolfson Children's Hospital, Late Bloomers Garden Club, Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army, founding and charter member of the Wednesday club, a group of childhood friends who met once a month on Wednesday for over 60 years to discuss life and family. She was also a member of the Florida Yacht Club, and St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Anne was an avid gardener and orchid collector and known for her gracious hospitality.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, and her son James Temple Doswell, III. She is survived by her son, Harry James Doswell (Alice), Aiken, SC; daughter Anna Doswell Easton (Andrew), Tallahassee, FL; daughter in-law Anne Nixdorf Doswell, Live Oak, FL.; Nephew Harry Richards James, Jr. and niece Gail James Brent (John); grandchildren Anna Logan Doswell Mauldin (Michael), North Augusta, SC; John Temple Easton and Philip James Easton, Tallahassee, FL; and great-grandson Hunter Cade Mauldin, North Augusta, SC. Devoted care givers Bettye Holmes and Carrie (Denise) Holmes Murkey.
Service will be held at St. John's Cathedral in Jacksonville on Thursday March 17, 2016 at eleven o'clock. Followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Ann Doswell may be made to the Salvation Army of Jacksonville, FL.
