Ann Mickalonis
NORTH AUGUSTA - Ann Mickalonis, 91, formerly of Latham, NY and Ocala, FL, died peacefully on February 23, 2018 surrounded by her family's love at NHC Healthcare in North Augusta, SC.
Ann Elizabeth Kaiser Mickalonis was born in Syracuse, New York on September 16, 1926. She was the eldest daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy Kaiser of Cazenovia, NY.
Ann practiced public health nursing in a career spanning four decades, always tirelessly advocating for her patients. Ann lived by the credo "once a nurse, always a nurse". After retiring from active nursing, Ann remained a health care volunteer well into her 80s.
Ann was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, John A. Mickalonis, who died in 2004. They met at a tuberculosis hospital in Saratoga County, NY where John was a patient and Ann was his nurse. They married upon his recovery.
Her survivors include six devoted children: Michael Mickalonis, of Atlanta; Maureen Ann Mickalonis, of Taylor, Mich.; Mary Fitzpatrick, of Portland, Oregon; John Mickalonis of North Augusta, SC; Veronica Mulvihill, of Medfield, Mass.; and David Mickalonis of Burke, Va; seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
The Mickalonis family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Ann's friend and caregiver Susan Simballa for her devotion and friendship.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, March 6, at Our Lady of Peace Church in North Augusta, SC at 6 PM. Visitation will precede the mass from 5-6 PM at the church.
