Arthur J. "Art" Hanna
NEW ELLENTON, SC - Arthur J. "Art" Hanna, 86, beloved husband of Edna Gregg Hanna, died Tuesday evening at his residence.
A native of Florence County, SC, Art was a son of the late J. G. and Daisy Lee Poston Hanna. He lived in New Ellenton since 1956 and was the former Mayor. Art retired from E. I. DuPont at the Savanna River Site. He served as a member and chairman of the Area 5 Advisory Council from 1978 - 2000 and served as chairman of the Silver Bluff Sports Activity Committee during the early 1980's. Art was a faithful member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church since 1957. He served as deacon, teacher and chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. He was a member of Gideon's International Aiken County East Camp.
Survivors include five sons, Arthur L. Hanna (Denise), Summerville, SC, Ron A. Hanna (Pearl), Indian Trail, NC, Gary Hanna (Terry), Aiken, SC, Mark Hanna (Jeanna), North Augusta, SC and Ken Hanna (Sharon), Irmo, SC; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by three brothers, James, W.T. and Bobby.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church. The Revs. Richard Nichols and Ron Hanna will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Berea Pals Sunday School Class.
