Barbara Bledsoe Jones
AIKEN, SC - Longtime Aiken, resident Barbara Bledsoe Jones, widow of William G. Jones, Sr., passed away June 4, 2014 in Atlanta, GA, at the age of 71.
Barbara was born in Fayetteville, NC on June 12, 1942 and was a daughter of Mary Johnson Bledsoe and the late James Bledsoe. She and her late husband were married July 14, 1962 until his death, September 5, 2007. She graduated from Methodist University (Class of 1965) with a degree in Elementary Education and was an elementary teacher before she became a full-time mother and homemaker. Barbara was an avid animal lover, especially dogs and birds. She was family focused and very dedicated to her children, grandchildren and friends. She laughed often and loved fiercely.
In addition to her mother, Mary, of Raleigh, NC, Barbara is survived by her children, William G. Jones, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Alpharetta, GA, James Robert Jones also of Alpharetta, GA and Timothy Jones and his wife, Cherie, of Saint Louis, MO; grandchildren, Sydney Jones, Sienna Jones, Savannah Jones and Rian Dugar; her very close friend and companion, Dick Chelchowski, of Aiken, South Carolina; a brother, Jim Bledsoe and his wife Jo, of Raleigh, NC and sister, Teresa Norgaard and her husband, Carl of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11 o'clock in the morning Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. Henry L. Chennault officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
Memorial contributions may be directed on behalf of Barbara Jones to The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.
