FT. LAUDERDALE, FL - Mrs. Berter Mae Johnson Ingram of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Broward Health Medical Center, Ft. Lauderdale Florida.
She was born in Allendale County South Carolina but grew up in Barnwell County (Dunbarton South Carolina).
She was a daughter of the late Reverend Richard Johnson, Sr. and Mrs. Pinkie Smith Johnson.
Berter Mae was a member of the 1947 graduating class of the historic Four Mile High School of Dunbarton South Carolina. She continued her Education, graduating from Voorhees Jr. College, Denmark, South Carolina, Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina and Nova University, Davie, Fl. She taught in the following schools in South Carolina: Appleton Elementary, Appleton, SC, Ned Branch Elementary, Dunbarton, SC and Four Mile High School Dunbarton, SC.
Following the marriage to her late husband Mr. Benjamin Ingram, they relocated to Ft. Lauderdale Florida where she continued her teaching career with the Broward County School system where she worked as a class room teacher, an audio visual media specialist, and a guidance counselor. She retired after 42 years of service. She has written two books.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Benjamin Ingram, Sr., two sisters, Pinkie Mae Johnson, Wilmyrtle Williams, four sisters-in-law, Mariah H. Johnson, Madell Ingram, Sallie Ingram and Dorothy Ingram and three brothers-in-law,
Samuel Ingram, Leon Ingram and Norman Ingram, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Benjamin W. Ingram and Beverly D. Ingram both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., three brothers, Richard Johnson, Jr. Aiken, SC, Brooker T. Johnson and Wendell Johnson of Martin, SC., two sisters Mary Hamin, Gaston, SC, and Edna R. Clifton, Columbia, SC, one sister-in-law Diane Johnson of Martin, SC, three brothers-in-law, Furman Clifton, Columbia, SC, Brooks Ingram Martin, SC and Robert Ingram, West Ken Lark, Fl. and 7 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Faith Worship Center, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Saturday
May 13, 2017 at McWhite Funeral Home Chapel.
