AIKEN - Bruce Weymouth McGhee, 89, born on May, 22 1928 in Cambridge, Mass. to the late John McGhee Jr. and Ava Weymouth McGhee, was laid to rest on Wednesday, February 7th, 2018.
Bruce served in the Army from 1952-1956 as a helicopter pilot. After his service in the Army, Bruce attended the University of Maine Orono where he graduated with a Bachelor in Business. McGhee worked as a stockbroker for many years, and always had a passion for horses. Bruce became a great farmer and horseman throughout the years: breeding, breaking, training, and driving Standardbred horses. He also enjoyed flying his plane and helicopters in his spare time. In 1997, he moved to Aiken, SC from Maine with his family and purchased the former, Aiken Training Track, now McGhees' Mile.
Survivors include: his wife, Janis Joseph McGhee; four sons, Robert McGhee, Mark J. McGhee, Bruce McGhee Jr., Matt (Lindsey) McGhee; three daughters, Bonnie Jean McGhee, Jessica McGhee, Ashley McGhee; along with numerous grandchildren.
The celebration service for Mr. Bruce Weymouth McGhee will be held at 4PM Saturday, February 10, 2018 at McGhees' Mile Standardbred Training Center.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bruce McGhee Memorial Harness Races to take place on March 10, 2018. 620 Banks Mill Rd. SE Aiken, SC 29801.
