Cameron S. Perkins, M.D.
AIKEN, SC - Cameron S. Perkins, M.D., adored husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, passed on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at the age of 61. He joined his late parents, Okey and Sarah Perkins, to watch over their family and loved ones.
Born in Aiken, South Carolina, in 1955, Cam was the third of four boys who grew up on the family farm. He attended USC-Aiken and MUSC. Medical school was followed by many years as a pathologist in the United States Army before settling and practicing in Douglas, GA in 1994. In 2004 Cam discovered a new chapter and a new passion in his professional life when he became a professor at South Georgia State College. He continued teaching until this past fall.
Cam is survived by his adoring wife, Hope Maroney Perkins, with whom he spent the last 40 years, their three children, Heather Iler (Jeff), Travis Perkins (Meghan McNeeley), and Shelby Perkins (Jeremy Howard); and his two grandchildren, Ayden and Cameron, as well as his beloved grand-dog and constant companion, Fenway. His brothers, Nick (Sungae), Rick (Cendy), and Tim (Mary Mark) and in-laws, Mary E. Maroney, Preston, and Gil (Candy) will miss Cam, and his many nieces and nephews will all say good night prayers for Uncle Cam for years and years to come.
The family requests no flowers or charitable donations at this time. Memorial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
