Charles W. Chandler
AIKEN, SC - Charles Walker "Chuck" Chandler, Aiken, SC, died Thursday (March 6, 2014) in Augusta Health in Fishersville, VA.
Born June 18, 1933 in Churchville, he was a son of John Franklin and Nora (Helmick) Chandler. He was a graduate of Churchville High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Before moving to Aiken 40 years ago, Mr. Chandler was employed by Boward Trucking Company. He retired from Aiken Standard newspaper company and attended Harvest Baptist Church in Aiken.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia McGuigan; and six brothers, Harry, Lyle, Roscoe, James and Frank Chandler, and Bobby Coiner. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Fern Mae (Coffman) Chandler; five children, Larry Chandler and wife Beverly of Columbia, NC, Tammy McGirt of Red Springs, NC, Charles W. Chandler, Jr. and wife Libby of Lexington, NC, Kenneth Chandler and wife Lynnette of Havelock, NC, and Richard Chandler and wife Monique of Anchorage, AK; 14 grandchildren, Jason, Aaron and Nona Chandler, Wykemia, Tiffany and Tamera McGirt, Alisha, Chad and Jenny Chandler, Cheryl-Lynn, Jo-Lynn, and Caitlynn Chandler, Nicole Chandler and Sean McGuigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
