Charlie Ross McKie
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Mr. Charlie Ross McKie, 92, husband for 54 years to the late Virginia B. McKie, entered into rest on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Hammond House.
His funeral service was held at 4:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2015 in the Chapel of Rowland Funeral Home with Rev. Sandra Lightner officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Mr. McKie was born in North Augusta on April 13, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie R. McKie, Sr.
Survivors include 5 daughters, Barbara B. Bullock of Thomson, GA, Laura B. Waites of Lexington, SC, Paula B. Hughes of Tallahassee, FL, Charlene Petlick of Greenland, NH, and Marge Pingel of
Colorado Springs, CO; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one brother, G.H. McKie of North Augusta, SC. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherrilyn Hatch and one sister, Ailene M.
McConnell.
Charlie loved to fish, plant gardens, and watch baseball. He played softball for many years. He shared his garden produce with friends, family and church members. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
At St. James United Methodist Church, he served as president of the Methodist Men's Club, chairman of the Council of Ministries, was on the administrative board and in the choir.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until service time.
