Clarence J. Lewis Sr.
NEW ELLENTON, S.C. - Mr. Clarence J. Lewis Sr, age 94, entered eternal life on Monday, July 28, 2014 at UPAC of Aiken.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Friday, August 1, 2014 at Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church, 97 Dry Branch Road, Aiken SC (Viewing 10-11am) with Rev. Bruce Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Clarence Lewis, Sr. was born March 20, 1920 to Eva Bing and Charlie Lewis in Jacksonville, Florida. While still a child, Clarence with his parents and sister relocated to Dunbarton, South Carolina. He attended grade school in Aiken, South Carolina. At an early age and with the influence of his family, he united with Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church.
During his early age, Clarence met the love of his life- Mollie. Together they birthed six children- five boys and one girl. They include Clarence Lewis Jr. (Chris), Charles Lewis (Lucia Mae), Ronald Lewis (Mary), Jerome Lewis-deceased (Denise), Carl Lewis, Vivian Lewis Gaines (Linton).
Clarence served the United States Army during the World War II era. He traveled to many foreign countries serving until his honorable discharge in 1947.
A much loved family man with 6 children, 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren he was able to maintain a courageous spirit for 94 years.
Clarence's spirit will remain a part of us forever.
The family will greet friends at the New Ellenton Chapel on Thursday from 7-8 PM.
