BURNETTOWN, SC - Mr. Clarence S. Palmer, 79, of Burnettown, SC, known by his friends and family as "Cooney", husband of fifty-three years to Mrs. Janice Courtney Palmer, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in the comfort of his home.
Born in Vidalia, GA and a resident of Aiken County, SC, most of his life, he was a son of the late Judge Emery and Eva Durden Palmer. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired as Head Shipper from Kimberly-Clark after thirty-one years of service. Cooney was a member of Horse Creek Masonic Lodge #174 and enjoyed fishing and gardening. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his grands, Ashley Pelton, Melissa Palmer, Daniel Palmer, Brandon Palmer, Macy Palmer and Carson Palmer and great-grands, Graylynn Lever, Aydin Palmer, Bayleigh Palmer, Aubree Palmer and Kaiden Cook.
In addition to his wife, parents, grands and great-grands, family members include sons, Clarence A. Palmer and his wife, Beth, Glenn A. Palmer and his wife, Tammy and Courtney S. Palmer and his wife, Amy, all of Warrenville, SC siblings, Jenell Dixon, Langley, SC, the late Judge Emery "Bozy" Palmer, Jr. and the late John Donaldson "Buddy" Palmer.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, December 22, 2016, from 5 until 7 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 2 o'clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Pastor David Hixon will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC, with Masonic Rites accorded by Horse Creek Masonic Lodge #174. Pallbearers will be Keith Williams, Buck Sowers, Glenn Widener, Matthew Widener, Daniel Palmer, Brandon Palmer and Carson Palmer. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Horse Creek Masonic Lodge #174.
It has been suggested that if so desired, memorials in memory of Cooney be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. (
