Delores "Dee" Perry Slovic
RALEIGH, NC - Delores "Dee" Perry Slovic, age 86, passed away in a Raleigh, NC hospital surrounded by family after a fall and brief illness on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Dee was a long time resident of Aiken, SC.
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on June 6th, 1931 to the late Louis Gonzaga Perry and Yvonne Roy Perry. Dee left home at an early age and moved to South Bend, Indiana to finish high school on her own while working as a nanny and then later at the University of Notre Dame. She loved her time at Notre Dame, received holiday cards from Rev. Hesburgh throughout her life and always cheered for the Fighting Irish. After Notre Dame, she worked as a stewardess for TWA Airlines during the glamorous early days of aviation travel. She flew the Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York routes living with other stewardesses in each city in what eventually became known as the jet set lifestyle. During her travels with TWA, she met a Dupont engineer, got married and settled in Aiken, SC with many other young couples that came to work at the Savannah River Plant. After raising four children, Dee returned to college at USC Aiken, became a Registered Nurse and worked until retirement. She and her husband, Jim enjoyed their long-time friends in the Aiken community and traveled frequently in retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years James (Jim) J. Slovic Sr. and a sister Carol (Luther) Brewer. Survivors include a brother, Lou "Junebug" (Mary) Perry of Inverness, Florida. Daughters: Cathy (Larry) Augerinos of Houston, Texas, Holly (Chip) Broughton of Louisburg, NC, Marty Norton of Raleigh, NC, and a son, Jay (Michelle) Slovic of Taiwan. There are many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
