Lofton Brown
Elizabeth Ann Lofton Brown entered into rest on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
She was born in McClellanville, SC, on September 21, 1920, to John Marion and
Harriet Lucas Lofton. After graduating from Winthrop College in 1941, Mrs. Brown taught in Summerton, SC, before moving to Charleston to become the classified advertising manager at the Charleston Post Courier. She married Thomas Leech Brown in 1948 moving to Raleigh, NC, before settling in Charlotte, NC, where she lived until 2013.
In Charlotte, she worked at Florence Crittenton Services for a few years and was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, The Charity League, The Quilters Guild, and The Whatzit Club. Mrs. Brown remained a member of The Society of First Families of South Carolina, The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the St. James Santee Historical Society. In Greenville, Mrs. Brown was member of All Saints Anglican Church.
Mrs. Brown is predeceased by Thomas Brown, her husband of 61 years, and her two brothers, John Marion Lofton Jr. and Alexander Lucas Lofton. She is survived by her two sons Thomas Palmer Brown and wife, Curtis "Boo", of Greenville, SC, and Charles Lucas Brown, and wife, Elaine, of Aiken, SC; three granddaughters, Leslie Brown Holliday of Taylors, SC, Sarah Brown Hamby, and husband, Richard, of Greer, SC, and Anna Brown Klinger and husband, Matthew, of Rockville, MD; and her great-grandson, Jackson Palmer Hamby. She is also survived by her sister, Amy Lofton Moore, of McClellanville, SC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 11:30 am at All Saints Anglican Church, 327 Ackley Road, Greenville, SC 29609, and the family will receive family and friends at the home of Palmer and Boo Brown from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at 14 Gladesworth Drive, Greenville, SC.
A burial service will be held at a later date in McClellanville, SC, at the St. James Santee Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Anglican Church at the above address or to St. James Santee Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 123, McClellanville, SC 29458.
