Emma Wightman
GREENWOOD, SC - Emma Jane Pruitt Wightman, 76, of Greenwood, widow of Francis Earle "Frankie" Wightman, her husband of forty-eight years died peacefully on June 20, 2016.
Known affectionately by her family as "Majane", Mrs. Wightman was born in Greer, June 1, 1940, a daughter of Jeanette Neal Pruitt Ouzts and the late Clyde J. Pruitt.
Known for her free spirit and colorful personality, she was a natural artist and musician who inspired her grandson to successfully pursue his own musical endeavors. She had a passion for animals and nature and loved to play golf and travel. She continuously sought new experiences, and was a lifelong learner.
Mrs. Wightman attended Charzanne Cosmetology School and Piedmont Technical College and was a hairdresser for many years before becoming an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. She spent her last few years in retirement in the company of friends and family.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Augusta are a son, Reid Wightman and wife Tammy of Aiken, SC; daughter, Laurie Wightman Maloney and husband Matt of Greenville, NC; grandson, Bryson Wightman of Greenville, SC; granddaughter, Sloan Wightman of Charleston, SC; a brother Aaron Pruitt and wife Cathy of Sumter, SC; four sisters, Norma Owings and husband James of Greenwood, SC, Reba Brown and husband Lewis of Washington, GA, Lynne Horne-Young and husband Bill of Augusta, GA and Debbie Capley of Washington, GA; her special companion, Butch Dykes of Greenwood, SC; furry children, Oliver, Suzy and Bullet; and numerous cousins and special family members. She was blessed to have a large extended family who loved her very much.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:00 AM at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bette Ann Hedden officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:00AM until the service hour at Blyth Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the Humane Society of Greenwood, PO Box 49776, Greenwood, SC 29649.
