Reverend Ernest Moates
WILLISTON, SC - Funeral services for Reverend Ernest Cleveland Moates, 87, of Williston, SC will be held at two p.m., Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Grace Covenant Church of God, New Ellenton, SC with the Pastor Edgar Foster officiating; burial will be in The Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Thursday at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC. Reverend Moates passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015.
Born in Pelzer, SC he was a son of the late Willie and Lula Crouch Moates and was married to the late Helen Louise Foster Moates for 63 years. Reverend Moates was an Ordained Bishop for the Church of God for 64 years, a Missionary Evangelist for 40 years, pastored in Georgia, Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, South Carolina, Central America, Africa, Europe, all of the Virgin Islands, and the Caribbean. He was instrumental in building several churches, two orphanages and assisted in building Bible Training Schools in Africa. Reverend Moates touched and ministered to many, many people. He was a member of Grace Covenant Church of God, New Ellenton. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his daughter, Jean (Bob) Dean of Boise, ID; sons, Dan (Linda) Moates of Ocala, FL, John (Donna) Moates of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Starla (Bob) Chord, Ashleigh (Joel) Smith, Chris (Andrea) Hutto, Lindsey (Beau) Broker, Jonathan (Kim) Moates, Jeremy Moates and his fiance;, Kaycie; great grandchildren, Ethan, Wyatt,
Dalton, Londyn, Josh and
Sydney. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
