Gary E. Shealy
JOHNSON CITY, TN - Gary E. Shealy died on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, in Johnson City, TN, at the age of 56.
Gary is survived by his father and stepmother, Elmer and Corine Shealy, his wife, Faith Wurm Akin, his step children, Jennifer Akin and Coleman Akin, two grandchildren, Samuel and Kimora, and his brother, Wallace Shealy, of Weaverville, NC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Shealy.
Gary was born in Aiken, SC. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1982 with a degree in chemistry, and from Clemson University in 1985 with a MS degree in computer engineering. He moved to Johnson City to work for Texas Instruments and subsequently worked for Siemens, Wonderware, and Osisoft.
Gary was loved by his family and friends, and was an avid backpacker and fly fisherman. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 11:00 am, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Johnson City with Pastor Jim Nipper, Pastor Ed Myers, and Pastor Christoph Schulze officiating. Friends are invited to join Faith and her family after the service for lunch and visitation in the Fellowship Hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ALSA.org, or the Gary E. Shealy Scholarship Endowment through the Clemson University Foundation @ cualumni.clemson.edu/give/gary-shealy. The family would like to thank caregivers Keith Hermon and Jenna Trent, and hospice staff, especially Carolyn Pridemore, for their care and support.
