George Houston Nelson
WARRENVILLE, SC - Mr. George Houston Nelson, 82, husband of the late Sondra West Nelson, entered into rest on Saturday, July 18, 2015.
Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, he was a son of the late George and Lizzie Kitchens Nelson.
A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Savannah River Plant, where he was a Lab Technician, after forty-four years of service.
Mr. Nelson enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball and Football and was a member of the American Legion. More than anything however, he enjoyed spending time with his grands.
In addition to his wife, family members his friend and companion, Pauline Wheat, Warrenville, SC; children, Mark Nelson and his wife, Deborah, Lincolnton, GA and Joni Nelson Berry and her husband, Buddy, Missouri City, TX; sister, Sarah Barnes, Clearwater, SC; step-children, Sharon Dion and her husband, Mike, Hilton Head Island, SC, Karen Harbin and her husband, Kevin, Cincinnati, OH and Dirk Wheat, Warrenville, SC; grandchildren, Jon Nelson and his wife, Ashley, Megan Nelson, Sawyer Berry Lexanne Speer and her husband, Adam and Paul Snider, great-grandchildren, Jordan and Macey Nelson and Cara, Ali and Nate Speer and six step-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at 11 o'clock in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC, with Pastor Chris Williams officiating.
If so desired memorials may be made to any children's related charity.
The family will greet friends on (this evening) Monday, July 20, 2015 from 6 until 8 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC.
