WESLEY CHAPEL, FL - Mr. George Reynolds "Guy" Burkam, 74, husband of Betty Hendrix Burkam, entered into rest at his home on Thursday, April 10th, 2014, under the loving care of Gulfside Hospice.
Born in Tampa, FL, he was a son of the late Harold and Hilma Robertson Burkam. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and Army, retiring from the Army, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He had lived in North Augusta, SC, before relocating to FL, where he retired from Saddlebrook Resort. Guy was a Master Carpenter and enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents and wife, family members include children, Debbie (Eddie) Newman, Pleasantville, TN, Donna (Rev. Robert) Pittman, Westminster, SC, Brenda (the late Jerry) Richardson, Trenton, SC, David (Carla) Lowery, Waynesville, NC, Donald Lowery, Cumming, GA and the late Donald Lyle Burkam, siblings, Donald (Betty) Burkam, Zephyrhills, FL, the late Harold Burkam and the late William Burkam, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, at 11 o'clock at the Apostolic Lighthouse, Aiken, SC, with Reverend Robert Pittman officiating.
Interment with Veterans Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
Pallbearers will be George Pittman, Chris Trader, Donald Lowery, David Lowery, William Edison, Sean Lowery, Solomon Turner, Charlie Couch and Daniel Richardson.
It has been asked that memorials be made to Gulfside Hospice. (
The family will greet friends on (this evening) Monday, April 14th, 2014, from 7 until 9 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC.
