Gladys Arthur White
AIKEN, SC - Gladys Arthur White, age 90 of Aiken, South Carolina, was called home on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 24, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Stephen Irvin Arthur Sr. and Maggie Couch Arthur. At a young age, she lost both her parents and was raised by Evelyn Couch Roe and husband Frank E. Roe, Sr. Gladys White was survived by her children, Janet Hankinson, Graniteville; Diane and husband Robin Massingill of Woodruff, SC; Heidi and husband Chris Wilbanks of Aiken; Bobby and wife Heather White also of Aiken; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Redds Branch Baptist Church, member of the Willing Workers Bible Class and prior member of Couchton Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Discipleship Training teacher and youth leader; she always had a soft spot in her heart for children. A very dedicated public servant, Gladys retired from Aiken County Government Services. She was affectionately known as "Nannee White". She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty six years, George Kenneth "Ken" White who passed on July 10, 2010. Nannee White really believed the truth in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." She believed that God had a mission for her which was to do her best to help children and youth to learn how He wanted them to live. Those whom knew Nannee White, knows that she fulfilled this mission. She was loved by young and old alike and will certainly be missed.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 pm until 8 pm at Redds Branch Baptist Church and will lie in state on Saturday from 1:00 pm until service time. Funeral Service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Redds Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Richard McWhite and Rev. George Koon officiating; interment will follow in the church cemetery. The funeral home has asked that all floral arrangements ordered to be sent to the church on Friday after 11:00 am.
