Dr. Glover Moore Elijah Hickson, III
AIKEN, SC - Dr. Glover Moore Elijah Hickson, III, RPh, 71, was born on October 23, 1945, in Orangeburg, SC, to the late Glover Moore Hickson, Jr. and Justin Gertrude Odom Hickson. He was the dedicated husband of Dr. Doris M. Hickson for 48 years, and served as a public servant, educator, and activist for over a half century.
Dr. Hickson graduated in 1963 from Martha Schofield High School, Aiken, SC, and later graduated in 1967 from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Orangeburg, SC and in 1976 with a degree in Pharmacy from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL.
He worked loyally with the Savannah River Site, Ayerst Laboratories, and The Kroger Company, where he served as a Pharmacist/Manager until he retired professionally in 2011 after 33 years. Until his passing, he maintained his licenses and Certifications with the Georgia, South Carolina & Florida Pharmaceutical Associations and Boards.
His servitude to society involved him serving as a member in the following organizations: Friendship Baptist Church (Member and Deacon), Cairo Temple #125 of the Imperial Council of the Mystic Shrine, Dickerson Lodge #314 Prince Hall F&A Mason, Sigma Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated (Initiated: Epsilon Omega in 1970), Delta Iota Chapter of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc (Florida A&M University: 1975); Aiken County School Board - Chairman from 1994 to 1995, South Carolina State University Alumni Club, including the co-Chair of the 50th class reunion of the Class of 1967; Aiken Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Coalition to Assist Abused Persons Executive Board, and a former member of the Royal Aikenites.
He leaves cherished memories to his wife, Dr. Doris M. Hickson, of 48 years, his Children: Diane M. (Hendrick) Ellis, Charlotte, NC; Yolanda D. Asumu, Katy, TX; Glover M.E. Hickson, IV, Aiken, SC; Dr. DeMarc A. Hickson, Jackson, MS; and Bruce T.E. Hickson, Aiken, SC; Grandchildren: Severino "Sevy" LS Asumu; Yolanda M. Asumu, Jr.; and Doris A. Asumu (along with their father Severino M. Asumu); and Kendall Montgomery Ellis; Brothers: Lt. James A. (Susan) Hickson, Sr., Nashville, TN, and Dr. Sherman R. (Dr. Eavon) Hickson, Sr., Aiken, SC; "Big" Brother/Cousin: Norman F. (Ruby) Brown, Sumter, SC; Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Melvin Muldrow, Jr., Gable, SC, McKinley (Barbara) Muldrow, III, Sumter, SC, Herman E. (Stacy Wilson) Muldrow, Gable, SC, Ervin G. (Janice) Muldrow, Miami Gardens, FL; and Raynold O. (Ella) Muldrow, Sumter, SC; aunt Burdell Odom-Hughes, Denmark, SC; and a wealth of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and church members, extended sons, daughters, and grandkids, and friends.
The celebratory service for Dr. Glover Hickson will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Friendship Baptist Church, (Viewing from 10AM-11AM) which is located at 515 Richland Avenue, Aiken, South Carolina; Reverend T.C. Edwards, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2648 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Graniteville, SC 29829.
Visitation will be held today from 6:00PM til 8:00PM with Masonic rites from 8:00PM til 9:00PM at JACKSON-BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, 126 Fairfield Street SE, Aiken, SC 29801.
