AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Grace Settles Pope, 81, departed this life Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Pepper Hill Nursing Center, Aiken, SC. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1120 US Highway 25 N, Edgefield, SC. Burial will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Pope was born on October 19, 1933 in Edgefield, SC to the late David Settles Sr. and the late Ruby Dandy Settles.
She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Master Trevor James Quick and her brother Eugene Settles.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 59 years, January Pope, Sr., eight sons, January Pope, Jr., Macon, GA, Garry Pope, Long Beach, CA, Rev. Noldon Pope (Nakia), Glen Burnie, MD, Benny Pope, Silver Spring, MD, Howard Pope (Lottie), Russell Pope (Katie), David Pope (Phylis), and Mike Pope all of Aiken, SC; sisters, Viola Lightner, Lula Belle Johnson, Annie Ruth Johnson (Marvin), all of Aiken, SC, Lena Barnes, Philadelphia, PA; brothers, James Settles (Eddie Mae), David Settles, Jr., and Warren Settles, all of Aiken, SC; two aunts, Bernice Cook, Redding, PA, Betty Etheridge, Atlanta, GA. 9 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Pope will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the hour of service. Friends may call at the residence at 277 Hamelin Rd, Aiken, SC. A public viewing will be held at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home Friday, February 6, 2015 from 3 PM - 8 PM.
