Helen Grace Faucett Lide
AIKEN, SC - Helen Grace Faucett Lide, 88, beloved wife of 65 years to Charles Bennett Lide, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Pepper Hill Nursing Home.
A native of Union, SC, Helen was a daughter of the late Benjamin G. and Bessie Kelly Faucett. She graduated from Columbia College in 1947.
Helen had lived in Aiken since 1955 and was a former case worker with the South Carolina Department of Social Services. She kept in contact with a number of class mates from Columbia College and in 1983 the group decided to start annual get-togethers which went on for many years. Helen was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, loved to travel and read. A memorable family camping trip in 1969 took the family cross-country to California and back. She was very dedicated in contributing her time to numerous charitable events and her kindness radiated to all who interacted with her.
Survivors, in addition to her husband Charles, include two sons, Robert Lide, Tallahassee, FL, Ben Lide, Aiken; a granddaughter, Jessica McNeely and a sister, Margie Faucett Patterson, Columbia, SC.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lide was preceded in death by her brothers, Munore Faucett and Jack Faucett, and her sister, Bessie Faucett Walden.
A private graveside service will be held Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Southlawn Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at St. John's United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. Ray Litz officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in Ward Hall.
