BEECH ISLAND, SC - Mr. Hobert Lee "Butch" Poplin, 66, also known as "Father Time", husband of twenty-nine years to Mrs. Sammie Gibbs Poplin, a devoted husband, father, "paw-paw" and a true friend to many, entered into rest on Saturday, February 7, 2015, from injuries received while doing what he loved best, riding his Harley.
Born in Bainbridge, OH, a son of the late Hobert Poplin and the late Sue Barnett Johnson, he had been a resident of Aiken County, SC, since 1977. He retired form United Defense and also was a former Instructor at Aiken Technical College. "Father Time", as he was better known, loved to ride and was a "true biker" and "hippie". He was president of the Steel Stallions Motorcycle Club for thirty years, proud member of the Dixie Thunder Chapter of ABATE of South Carolina for thirty-five years and started the annual Toy Run for Helping Hands.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his children, Wes Poplin and his wife, Sarah, Barnwell, SC, Jackie Evans and her husband, Raymond, Navarre, FL and Susan Manross, Wichita Falls, TX; siblings, Deborah Rose, Rock Hill, SC, Greg Hutchison and his wife, Sheila, Summerville, SC, Linda Penrod and her husband, Doug, Columbus, OH, Bill Hutchison and his wife, Donna, Columbus, OH and Buddy Hutchison and his wife, Charlene, West Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Shane and Kaydrian Poplin and Gunner and Maison Evans, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Lorraine and a son, Scotty.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 2 o'clock, in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC, with Bishop Hugh officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery, at the residence. Pallbearers will be Robert "Redneck" Smith, John Lowman, Anson "Red" Harding, Frank Garvin, Scott Hutchison and Terry Woodruff. Dorsey "Cowboy" King, will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
The family respectfully request that flowers be omitted and memorials in memory of Butch be made to Helping Hands, P.O. Box 503 Aiken, SC 29802.
The family will greet friends on (this evening) Wednesday from 6 until 8 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC.
