Howard Dees
NORTH AUGUSTA - Mr. Howard Ronald "Ron" Dees, 69, of North Augusta, SC, husband of forty-six years to Mrs. Mary McDowell Dees, entered into rest on Thursday, January 12, 2017, in the comfort of his home, under the compassionate care of Trinity Hospice.
Born in Pensacola, FL, he was a son of Grace Dees Smith, Decatur, AL and the late Howard Vincent Dees. Ron grew up in Decatur, AL and following his graduation from High School he enlisted in the United States Army. He as a Vietnam Veteran and for his honorable service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (M-14), Expert (M-16), (45), Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star (Oak Leaf Cluster) and the PARA LRPP Service Medal. Having grown in Alabama, Ron was of course a Tide fan. However, when he relocated to the area in 1969, he obtained a BA from the University of South Carolina and became an avid Gamecock fan. Ron retired from Midland Valley High School, where he taught Special Ed. He enjoyed a round of golf and was a member of the Twin States Golf Association.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members include a son, Ronald Christopher Dees, North Augusta, SC and the late Mary Rebecca Dees, siblings, Susan Tidwell and her Mike, Decatur, AL, Rita Weeks, Decatur, AL and the late Melinda Dees Edwards, brother-in-law, William McDowell and his wife, Lynn, Charlotte, NC, many friends and let us not forget his four legged child, Sammy.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, beginning at 1 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 o'clock in the chapel.
