Irene J. 'Miss Mickey' Olson
AIKEN - After a long arduous struggle with diabetes and dementia, Irene J. "Miss Mickey" Olson passed away 11/10/2017.
A native of Jellico, TN; she was the oldest daughter of the late Earl L. Jones and Ida Thurman Jones. Mickey arrived in Aiken in 1950 when her father was employed in construction at the Savannah River Plant. After her family returned to Tennessee, she remained in Aiken. She was employed in the garment industry for many years with Regal MFG, S.R. Skinner & Aiken Industries.
Despite her limited formal education, but with great self-confidence, determination, and drive, she became the co-founder and plant manager of her namesake women's clothing company, Miss Mickey's Sportswear. She oversaw the operations of sewing plants in Aiken & Allendale. She also owned Big Discount Clothing in Aiken. After retirement, she could not be idle and returned to work as a cashier at Rose's Department Store for five years.
Left to cherish her memories and positive influence on their lives are her husband of 38 years, Reier "Ole" Olson; her daughther, Donna B. Campbell (Aaron); grandchildren, DeeDee Redd (Bryan), Dana S. Ergle (Robert), Aaron F. "AJ" Campbell, and Rebecca C.
