Jack Leon Knox
AIKEN - Jack Leon Knox, son of Catherine M. Knox and Robert Knox, Sr. departed this life on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his residence in Aiken, SC. He was born in Manhattan, New York, January 3, 1962 until moving to Edgefield, SC at an early age. He was a graduate of Strom Thurmond High School's Class of 1980 and after graduation he began faithfully serving the country. At an early age, he joined the White Rock Baptist Church, in New York, NY.
He was inducted into the United States Army in 1980 and served 21 years including the Army National Guard. He served three tours and was a member of the 82nd Airborne and military police. He was a former employee of Wakenhut Security and served as a police officer. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Alumni Chapter, Boy Scouts of America, and is active in several community outreach programs. He is a graduate of Voorhees College with a BA in Organizational Management. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Knox, Sr., but he leaves to cherish his memories, a son Brandon Knox, of Aiken; his mother and step-father, Catherine K. (Esau) Butler of Edgefield, SC two brothers, Rory Tracy Knox, Stone Mountain, GA and Rev. Dr. Robert Knox, Jr. (Machela) of North Augusta, SC; one uncle, Rev. Dr. Brodie Mathis, Coatsville, PA; six aunts, Cora Timothy and Mary (William) Little, Charlotte, NC, Deloris Mathis, Brooklyn, NY, Geraldine Mathis, Edgefield, SC, Nancy Lowery, Houston, TX, and Willow Dean Mathis, Denmark, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
The family will celebrate his life at a memorial service held at Jackson-Brooks Memorial Chapel on Thursday evening from 5-7 PM.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at Friendship Baptist Church, 515 Richland Avenue E (Viewing from 10AM -11AM) with Rev. TC Edwards, Pastor officiating. Burial will be held 11 AM
Tuesday, 1/16/2018 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC.
