AIKEN, SC - James Aaron "Jim" Powell, 74, died Friday, February 12, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, TX.
A native of Montgomery, AL Jim was the son of Nell Joe Powell and the late James Powell. A graduate of Auburn University, he spent his career in the nuclear industry retiring from Savannah River National Lab in 2009. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and Houston Brown's Sunday school class.
His hobbies included fishing and golf, but he treasured most the time spent with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Katherine Hixon Powell. Survivors also include a son James Gregory Powell and his wife Julie, Auburn, AL, a daughter Meg Powell Berman and her husband Lawrence, Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Carra Lynne Powell and Casey Cooper Powell, Auburn, AL; and a brother Joseph Powell and his wife Kitty of Montgomery, AL.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Millbrook Baptist Church's historic little white chapel on Pine Log Road.
Family will greet guests prior to the service at 12:30pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mexico Missions Fund at Millbrook Baptist Church.
